Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Psalm 34: 13

We hear a lot about the sin of spreading gossip. But did you know that it is equally sinful to listen to gossip, even if you are not commenting or adding to it? When we take in what others are saying about another person, it influences how we feel about them—many times without us even being aware. We should never condemn someone based on something someone told us, even if the person telling the story is someone we trust or hold in high esteem! Remember, there’s always more to the story! Form your opinions based on your own personal experience, not what others are telling you! The Bible could not be any plainer about the consequences of gossip. In Matthew 12: 36 -37  we’re told, “On Judgment Day people will give an account for every thoughtless word they have uttered, because by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Wow! Killing someone’s reputation is not only wrong . . . it is a sin that will receive the ultimate death sentence!
