Have you ever stop to think, is there any truth in what your reading?

“Plato, in his Republic, helps give an answer. In this book, Socrates recounts the “magnificent myth,” a tale that would help the people accept whatever their social status happens to be. The myth went like this: When God created people, He created some with gold in them, some with silver, and some with bronze. Those with gold were to be the Guardians, the highest political and social level in the nation. Those with silver would be the Auxiliaries, the next level. Finally, those with bronze would be the lowest class. If the people believed this myth, he said, they would be content with whatever their station was in life, because it was ordained by God. When asked, “Do you know of any way of making them believe it?” Socrates’s response was one of the most frightening, and insightful, in all ancient literature. “Not in the first generation,” he said, “but you might succeed in the second and later generations.” In other words, give any lie or myth enough time, and eventually people will believe it.”

“When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” When Jesus spoke those words he made it quite clear the nature of the devil. Sadly his listeners didn’t take heed, they just kept hurling their accusations one by one. (John 8:44) It’s quite easy for any one of us to spot a lie — once you know the truth that is, but in this ever connected world where every question is goggled and just about every ideology is permissible — It leaves many with the question what is truth?

To make matters worst, our ever connected society is presented with so much information that many read, watch, and listen with little or no evidence of truth. Did all of this misinformation begin at the creation of the Internet? No, if we open the book of Genesis it is clear that what God had declared to Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:16-17) was being questioned, with the words “Did God say” (Genesis 3:1). Everything in our world that isn’t of God is a result of that lie. Now in order for us to expose these lies and find the truth we must know who has the truth.

The harsh reality is many of us today are living a lie. As we engage in daily activities we hope than one day we’ll actually have a life and enjoy the fruits of our labor. While some may have the time to enjoy life, few are happy. In the book of Ecclesiastes Solomon states that though he has everything a king could want, his life was meaningless. “Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 2:11) If we live our lives based on what we see then we are living a lie. The circumstances and facts that we face daily are constantly changing nothing in this life remains constant. Hebrews 13:8 makes it clear that with God there is no change, he is the same yesterday, today and forever. The truth is the only constant in our lives and Jesus is the very embodiment of the truth. Everything Jesus says comes to past and stands firm, if anyone desires a firm foundation he must come to Jesus. And you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free (John 8:32).
