This is what the Lord Almighty said: “Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.” Zechariah 7: 9

Real compassion is putting your caring into action! It is much more than sympathy or concern. Feeling sorry for someone when you see them hurting is one thing, but doing something about it is compassion. When Jesus was here on earth, His heart was full of compassion. He reached out to all those who were hurting. He didn’t just pass a beggar on the street and say, “Oh, that’s sad.” No, not at all! He did something about it! Sometimes it’s as simple as just being there and letting someone know you care—a simple smile or word of encouragement. Other times it may be donating to a worthy cause or giving an offering to a mission project. Helping others doesn’t always mean financially, although that’s often the first thing people seem to think of. That’s why it’s important to pray and ask for Holy Spirit guidance and direction so you know how to respond. Ask God to put compassion in your heart for others, and ask Him to guide and direct how you should show it! Open your eyes and look around you, and you’ll see a world filled with hurting people. Ask yourself, “What can I do to help make someone’s life a little better?”
