Does Attending Church Save You?

Just about everywhere I go I hear people say “Don’t judge me.” It begs the question should we allow everyone to live their lives privately before God? If no one wants to be corrected or “judge” then what other option is there? When people get out of hand they claim that it’s the church folks that condemn and judge the most.  Perhaps their right but I suspect that when it comes to church, people have this idea that it’s a place full of hypocrites, and the there people claim to love God but yet never display any form of love.  Could church really just be a masquerade where judgmental people go to point fingers and have fun?

What is Church?

First we have to define what Church is. Church is defined as – a particular Christian organization, typically one with its own clergy, buildings, and distinctive doctrines. Basically Church is the system or organized body of people that share a belief. There are a number of people who believe the church to be the activities that happen during an actual church service. Then there are those who believe it to be the building.

The latter is far from the truth as church buildings change and are demolished from time to time. So clearly one can see the building has little to no affect on its congregation.

If we look at the history of Christianity (especially the Middle Ages) we see that though the church was divided and had no place to worship it survived. The reality is Church itself the organization cannot save you because it serves as a vehicle to encourage, support, and spread the message of Jesus Christ. When you look at 2 Corinthians 4:7 there is a key word (WE) in that verse which indicates the togetherness Christ followers must have. The Chapter goes on to say that (2 Corinthians 4:9-10) the different struggles and issues that come up against us, don’t (and shouldn’t) stop us from moving forward. The whole purpose of Church is to focus on CHRIST. People go to live musical performances with thousands to support their favorite artist, in the same way christians come together and celebrate who Jesus is.

Lost Focus

A major issue today is that many have lost their focus, instead of celebrating what God has done they celebrate themselves and the things they have. They come together to discuss their achievements, their goals, and their passions.

Yet they often forgot how they got there in the first place, they forgot where the blessings and opportunities came from. It’s because their focus is off, when they attend church they’re seeking entertainment. At the same time church shouldn’t be dry and lifeless but it shouldn’t serve as a place to entertain us, but rather educate, ennoble, inspire, encourage and simply develop us for the future.

Happy Flight of Feeling

Some are not satisfied with a (church) meeting unless they have a powerful and happy time. They work for this and get up an excitement of feeling. But the influence of such meetings is not beneficial. When the happy flight of feeling is gone, they sink lower than before the meeting because their happiness did not come from the right source.
Last Day Events P. 160

At the end of it all after attending different church services I have realized the congregation (or crowd) can help push you in the right direction or wrong depending on the group. In the end however the choice is yours (Joshua 24:15). The question we should ask ourselves each day is are we serving God or man? (Acts 5:29) Does the crowd lead you or are you led by God’s voice and his spirit?

Be Still

To hear God’s voice constantly you have to get to know him, you have to understand his heart, and his character. Is reading the Bible the only way you can draw closer to God? No the reality is, God is everywhere and he is not simply found by those who read the bible. God cannot be contained, after all he created all things. (Colossians 1:16) God is revealed if only we would take the time to watch and listen. (Psalm 46:10).

All of what I just expressed in the above paragraph I have both read (in the Bible) and seen in my own life experiences, some of which I will share on this blog and some on camera. The truth is though the followers of God can help influence you to make the right choices but there’s nothing in the church building that has the power to keep people from evil but there is something in the hearts of those who truly believe and truly serve God. There is love and power to encourage a broken spirt and a hopeless heart but in the end God is the one that saves you.
