Give and It Shall be Given Unto You

Following a brother’s suggestion to check out some Stephen Bohr studies on youtube as part of my sermon preparation I found a 4 part series entitled “Revisiting the Godhead”. Since I have been very interested in this topic I downloaded it. In one of the studies, entitled “The Omnipresence of God”, Pastor Bohr addressed the main text for my study, Zechariah chapter 4, giving me a whole new insight!

As part of my presentation I show how Jesus incorporated the imagery of the “golden oil” in Zechariah’s dream to craft the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. What I didn’t understand was the meaning of the “two olive trees”, “the two anointed ones” from which the oil flows. From Pastor Bohr’s study I discovered that they are the angels! See Testimonies to Ministers page 510.1. He also included this eye opening statement from Youth’s Instructor: “Through the ministry of the angels, the Holy Spirit is enabled to work upon the mind and heart of the human agent, and draw him to Christ, …” YI, July 5, 1894 par. 5.

I remembered the promise. “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.” It had been through the providential conversation with this brother that God had directed me to more light for my own study.

almost every blessing I enjoy comes to me from God through the channel of humanity.

It began to dawn on my understanding that almost every blessing I enjoy comes to me from God through the channel of humanity. Consider the Bible itself. “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:21. And then there were the scribes who copied the text down through the centuries. And those who translated it into a language I could understand. And those who taught me to read. And those who actually published and printed and marketed the specific Bible I own.Hundreds and thousands of people were involved, some of whom risked their lives to make available the text that tells me about God and His salvation. Not to mention the many people God has used to help me understand what I’m reading. Of course, God is back of it all, using His created intelligences as channels for His working. The promise doesn’t mention that part specifically but, through these providences, it was certainly becoming clearer to my mind. God had used this brother to aid me in my sermon preparation by pointing me to the ministry of Pastor Bohr, another human being, who shared what he had learned from the ministry of another human being, Ellen White. Through these human channels God was fulfilling His promise by enhancing my efforts to serve Him. And it all happened just when I needed it most.
